A ceremony was recently held in Bahrain's Sitra to mark the start of the construction of the third-phase affordable housing project, which was undertaken by China Machinery Engineering Corporation (CMEC), a subsidiary of Sinomach.

The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by Deputy Bahraini Prime Minister Khalid bin Abdullah Al-Khalifa, Bahraini Housing and Urban Planning Minister Amna bint Ahmed Al Romaihi, other Bahraini ministers and cabinet members.

Both Al-Khalifa and Romaihi spoke highly of CMEC's extraordinary performance in existing Sitra projects. They hoped that the Chinese company will continually make full of its professional management experience and high-level cooperation spirit, and looked forward to the early completion of the third-phase affordable housing project.

After the conclusion of the commencement ceremony, Al-Khalifa and other attending Bahraini officials paid their visit to demonstration apartments in the first-phase affordable housing project, held a meeting with construction workers, and handed over keys to eligible families.

With 2,877 affordable apartments and other supporting municipal facilities, the affordable housing project in Sitra is the largest such a project under construction in Bahrain. It has closely followed the principle of localization management.

So far, the first-phase affordable housing project, which consists of 1,077 apartments, has been put into use. The residential community has been built with scientific municipal planning and advanced design concepts in a drive to fully meet the housing demands of Bahraini families.

The third-phase affordable housing project is composed of 530 apartments and relevant municipal facilities. It is expected to be completed in a span of 18 months and will fundamentally improve the livelihoods of local residents.
